Climate
Vast and varied — tropical in the north (Darwin, Cairns) with a wet and dry season; arid desert in the interior; subtropical on the east coast (Brisbane, Gold Coast); temperate in the south (Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide); Mediterranean in Perth. Summer runs December–February in the southern hemisphere. Melbourne is notorious for "four seasons in one day." Sydney has mild winters and warm summers.
Free-movement & residency agreements

What this country's membership in bigger zones means for someone who ends up with residency or citizenship here.

Trans-Tasman Travel Arrangement

Australian and New Zealand citizens can live, work, and study in each other's country indefinitely on a Special Category or Resident Return Visa. Naturalizing in one opens a durable path to the other — worth factoring into the citizenship-timeline math if both are on your list.

Student visa holders can work up to 48 hours per fortnight during term and unlimited hours during vacation periods; graduates of eligible programs can apply for the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) to work in Australia for 2–6 years after completing their degree.
