Bolivia offers one of South America's most affordable retirement residency options, with $1,000/month in pension income qualifying for an annual renewable visa. Bolivia has a breathtaking geography β from the world's highest capital (La Paz at 11,900 ft) to the Uyuni Salt Flats β and extremely low living costs. It remains one of the least-visited but most dramatically scenic countries in the Americas.
Americans accepted to a Bolivian university or language school can obtain a student temporary residence permit for the duration of their program. Bolivia offers some of the lowest tuition costs in South America, and the Universidad Mayor de San AndrΓ©s (UMSA) in La Paz is the flagship public institution. Bolivia's extraordinary geographic diversity β spanning Amazonian rainforest, Andean highlands, and the Atacama salt flats β makes it an exceptional destination for students in ecology, geology, or indigenous cultures, and Cochabamba is increasingly popular for Spanish-immersion programs.
American residents in Bolivia can sponsor a spouse and dependent children for family reunification temporary residence through the General Directorate of Migration.
